Hostomel was one of the key targets of Russia on the way to Kyiv. It was shelled and bombed from the air, and an enemy landing force tried to land at Antonov Airport. Heavy battles were fought for the city, and it was possible to liberate the settlement from the occupiers on April 2.

Hostomel is a city that suffered numerous destructions during hostilities in the Kyiv region. It was damaged by almost 40%. The total damage is estimated at 9.5 billion hryvnias.

Thus, 4,553 buildings out of 11,874 buildings were damaged to varying degrees, 546 buildings were completely destroyed. The destruction in Hostomel can be estimated even by the streets: yes, Luhova was affected by 95%, and Chumatsky shlach and Sviato-Pokrovska — by 68% and 51%, respectively.

The housing stock in the city suffered significant damage: 1,834 private houses and townhouses, as well as 111 high-rise buildings. The total area of destroyed housing is more than 865,000 square meters, and the amount of damage exceeds 3 billion hryvnias.

Significant destruction was caused to the industrial and social infrastructure of the city. Damage to boiler houses and power substations had enormous consequences for the standard of living, and the destruction of administrative buildings affected the rhythm of people’s lives and local budgets.

According to the media, the damage to the Antonov airport in Hostomel is estimated at 1 billion dollars. The amount includes destroyed aircraft, including the “Mriya”, landing strips, and a flight test base. It will probably be much more difficult to rebuild an airport than to build a new one.

Despite the colossal damage and destruction, life continues in Hostomel. According to the Innovation Development Center, more than 20 new entrepreneurs have registered businesses in the city since the start of the full-scale war.
